THE BUSINESS JOURNEY
From CAD homework to Kobalt Kreations.
A shared interest, two Christmas printers, and a few fidgets that sparked an idea.
Our story began when my son tried 3D printing in his pre-engineering course. Helping with CAD homework gave me a chance to explore it too. That Christmas, he received a Bambu Lab A1 Mini, and my wife surprised me with a FlashForge Adventurer 5M.
Small prints, bigger possibilities.
We fit the hobby around work and school: a fidget, a small toy, a name added to a design. When his friends started asking about his prints, he gave some away and sold a few. We began talking about turning a hobby into a business.
Learning more than printing.
Making a print is one thing. Explaining what it does, figuring out a price, and delivering something another person wants brings new questions. We wanted to learn those skills together.
For now, earnings go back into software, filament, tools, and our next experiments. The goal is to keep learning and make time to do something we enjoy together.
